both... depends on the size of the original - 120, 4x5, 8x10 - and the intended output. i scan myself (screen cezanne flatbed) or use a service (tango).

Maybe this isn't possible with the variability in sensors, but it would be nice to have settings like "Velvia" and "Kodachrome" rather than, say, "Dynamic" with +/- settings from there. Ditto for B&W of course.

But maybe all that is possible with darkroom software, like Phase One and the like ?
The Fujifilm X series, X-100, X-E1 & X-Pro1 have "film simulation settings". Provia, Velvia, Astia & Monochrome. Still playing with them to see which I prefer.

Cheers,

I've had a bunch through the years and am still hanging on to my Olympus OM stuff. I have a mint OM-2n black that is a shelf queen, as well as a nice silver that I still use fairly often. I had a gorgeous Sinar Norma 4x5 that I bought on a whim, but it was too intimidating to use! As this is my first post, I can't do any pictures, but will in time.

Hey, thanks for the greeting. Here is the Sinar Norma I mentioned earlier. The machining was achingly gorgeous.

Sold my Leica M6 stuff a while back. Kept my Rollei 6008af for most serious stuff but these days I just use digital with Nikon D3x.

This is my near mint Olympus OM-2n. Feels lovely in the hands, and with the 40mm f/2, a very natural field of view for me.
