The Leica Digilux 2 also uses 2/3" type sensor, same as the X10. Technology has come a long way in terms of sensor tech and camera size.

Have you guys heard about the Hasselblad Lunar? Basically a Sony NEX-7 that costs like $5000 more....Hasselblad is taking major critical heat at Photokina last couple days. In forum posts, folks are saying Victor Hasselblad must be spinning in his grave.

Hasselblad's Lunar ILC is an NEX-7 in luxury trappings - Crave - Cameras - CNET Asia

Also a thread on DPReview, just search for it (forum rules prevent my putting a link to it here...)

Yup, sort of like Leica using Panasonic's body and charge a lot for $$ for the red dot.

Yep, but folks know that ahead of time that that's the situation because neither Leica nor Panasonic made any bones about it; and some folks are wiling to pony up the money for the red dot. And the Leica bodies weren't $5000 more than the Panasonic counterparts.

More importantly with respect to it's credibility, Leica still has exclusivity with the M-series of digital rangefinder bodies to stay true to the much-valued Leica rangefinder vision. And they are superb cameras. A lot of Leica is about cachet, and exclusivity. They still have that with the M-series digitals. BTW, they are commissioning Jony Ive of Apple to a one-off (single example) M digital body.

Hasselblad has no equivalent.

Stephen, Are you still feeling the love for the X10? Like a couple others here I went to a Costco but they didn't have one, so I couldn't get the feel for it. Some reviewers lament short-ish battery life. Also while I understand there will be limitations with the optical viewfinder, have you had a chance to try it? That, and the manual controls are the main attractions for me for this camera. I simply cannot get used to using an LCD screen and in bright light, I am completely guessing. Thanks.

Absolutely! In fact I am on vacation for two weeks and today heading up to Lake Tahoe for two days. The X-10 will be my main camera! Looking forward to doing some landscape/scenic photography with it!

Regarding the optical viewfinder, I really like it! It covers 85% of the actual frame, and it's not as sophisticated as the hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder in the X-100 (it couldn't at this price point), but I use it frequently and really like it. It comprised of a multi-element, multicoated, all glass lens system and zooms with the zoom on the lens, too! Way cool.

I don't find battery life to be an issue, and my "kit" from Costco included a spare battery, so I'm good go to, baby! I would look online for one from Costco, and if that doesn't work, there's always B&H.

Stay tuned for pics!
