Hello,

My first post on the forum.

Does anybody use Onkyo Reference Hi-Fi line for amplification, or have any experience usingthose?
My current setup is Onkyo P-3000R preamp & M-5000R amp & B&W CM9 & 2x ASW 10CM subs. Love the sound. I am thinking to upgrade CM9 with 804D3 /even waiting for D4/ but I want to keep my Onkyo. What do you think, would it be a enough power? I barely set the volume up to 25%.
Another option might be taking 2nd M-5000R and bi-amping. It would give 804D twice more juice but then I loose left/right outputs on pre-amp currently come to subwoofers...

I appreciate any adviceS and opinions.

Best,
Mark

Resurrecting this thread.

Wondering if anyone has compared McIntosh amps (e.g., MC1.25KW) to Bryston 28B Cubed with the 800D3?

How would you compare them?

I've never heard MC amps.

Have used 800d3 with mc 1.25 and mc275 for high frequencies. Trying classe delta now. At lower price point Michi would also be good with huge power.

My audiophile buddy, who happens to be a hifi audio reviewer had heard the Michi monoblock amps + stereo preamp on a pair of B&W 800 D3 and was highly impressed.
The Michi line is spectacular he said and do not represent typical Rotel. But the Michi gears are priced much much higher than Rotel products. The Michi amps are similarly priced as the McIntosh & recently discontinued Classe Delta series amps such as the CAM-600 monoblocks and the CA-2300 stereo amp.

He said the Michi monoblock amps sounded really good on the B&W 800 D3. I think the Michi monoblocks retail for around $14k or $15k for the pair and are bulilt like tanks.
Even the Michi stereo preamp has superb bulid quality and pairs really well with their matching monoblock amps. The stereo preamp alone weighs about 50 pounds.

Mighty impressive but your buddy is wrong on the pricing. Relatively cheap for what u get. I will post retail prices in the next post

Default Amplifier for B&W

3.5k for the pre, 6k for the stereo and 6k for the mono. I guess the mono could be classified as expensive.

But u do get 500W for the stereo and 1080W for the mono @ 8 ohms which is crazy. If you compare these with the similar specs macs then they are cheap.

Realy looking forward to test them.
