Hi
What's special about this amp?

If you ask me, I have not heard it.
Thanks

Special? Unsure if it is 'special' or not. I have read some good reviews. I am hoping it will 'grip' the woofer of the Arrays better than the McIntosh MC402-that is all.

In time, I will find out.
Thanks.

Hi
If the MC402 don't grip those woofers then it is not a amp problem you have, more of a bass problem causing by the room. If my memories is correct those speakers are rated for "recommended amplifier power" is 300Watts, it is more then enough you have with the MC402.
Thanks

That is correct. However, the Marantz have more current than the McIntosh. I am far from a tech on the subject but have been told that the reference amps may provide tighter bass than the Macs.

Since I received them yesterday, I will find out after I leave work.

Hi
I have lookt at the Marantz amps specs. Seems you will have 100Watts less power compared with the MC402 into 8ohm. The current will not help you with the grip only the power(watts) will, more power to the bass will do some changes. The MC402 has above 100 ampere current and it's alot.
But of course, it's your choice.
Thanks

Wattage isn't everything, otherwise we would all be using pro amps.

Wattage is everything, that's why I am using proamps with McIntosh who has been in the pro world.

Very true....these Marantz amps simply sound fantastic and yes, there is a much better bass response of the Arrays. As a matter of fact, the difference is profound. The bass is tight, defined and sounds amazing.

Quite frankly, I think these amps ARE indeed special. The level of detail, the resolution and clarity coming from the Arrays is stunning-at least to me. I truly believe that these amps will provide all I need for a long, long time.

Other than the issue of 'upgraditis' -which I am really trying to avoid, I have a system that I could enjoy forever.
