Hi Dan,

Sorry I did not see your post untill today...
I'm just thinking about selling my 2301 to you and replacing them by a small ARC amplifier
Seriously my aim is excatly the same as what I thought with the 402 : using it for ambiance, HT, music with kids in the room and so on... I also would like to have the choice of an other kind of sound that the McIntosh sound is producing, although it is superb and without any serious challenger in my opinion.
I noticed that the sound of LP's could be more engaging with SS amps than with McIntosh tube amps, although it is still very good with Mc, as you have seen in your all tube system...
Finally I received some input from Serge and Rob and I also went on the web to discover that the D100.2 is more recent and considered to be the best SS amp ARC ever made.
I'm about to buy a D100.2 at a good price from a dealer in France.
It is an investment that will pass the Wife acceptance factor easily...

Cheers,
Jérôme

Default Audio research d100.2

I finally bought ( money left so that's for sure this time ) an Audio Research D100.2 based on the opinions of Serge, Brian and all the wonderful things you can read about this one on the web.
Certainly not the level of a Mc 402 but it should be a nice spare amp and is more
"WifeCompatible".
Curious how it will be for LP playback against the 2301's.
I'm now listening to the " Let it Bleed" Rolling Stones LP and I must admit that the 2301's are really PUSHING the EB1i big time. They just seem to have unlimited dynamics and weight. I wonder sometimes why I have some regrets about the 501's with LP playback.....
I may be completely nuts. Surely I won't be the only one here ....
Cheers,
Jerome

Jerome...congrats on your purchase! This amp will suit your needs for a second system or to use if one of the 2301's gets hospitalized again, hopefully this won't happen. This is a nice amp and you'll enjoy it
