You inspired me to get a pair of GL’s for my 2500. I have had a pair of them for 5 years and it will be interesting to see if the newer pair has a different sound. Will be good to have a backup pair regardless.

Both in the line stage. I don’t swap the other 4 because I don’t play vinyl.

My C22 still has its stock tubes in the vinyl section as well since I don’t play vinyl. If you don’t play vinyl, then you only need to change out two tubes which doesn’t cost very much.

When I called McIntosh before buying my preamp and asked them... do I have to change out all 12 tubes every time? They more or less said yes... to which I said, even if I don't play vinyl (6 out of the 12 are Phono)? The answer was that the tubes are still active and if they burn out it will affect the rest of the system ... made no sense to me, but just incase I bought a set of 12 tubes for when that "one" burns out

Then just get some cheap tubes to install in the phono section.

freaking brilliant idea! I can't believe I didn't think of that. I will order some of those now, and then effectively have double the number of useful tubes in reserve now.
