I have a Bryston B60, but I've never tried it with the Sophias. Have you called Wilson? I'm sure that Debby could tell us what her dad uses in his office with the Sophias.

Leben CS600 driving S3s.

Since it seems like you're Mac guy, S3s with a MC275 would be a wonderful combo.

I haven't heard this combo myself yet but I plan to. At least for giggles.

I'm considering stretching my budget a bit for Sophias so I'm interested in the responses to this thread.

Oh and hi everyone, I'm Jason and this is my first post.
Welcome, jasont! You are in great company here. Good conversation with good people! Still the most welcoming audio I have found/been a part of

Default Pass Labs XA60.5 class A mono

I am using the XA60.5 class A mono blocks from Pass Labs with my WP8s in a large room. They are rated at 60 watts each into 8 ohms but double into 4 ohms, but they are conservatively rated and deliver huge amounts of current. Nevertheless, I haven't budged the meters (suggesting they haven't run out of power) and have played them quite loud.

I have used larger Pass Labs amps for many years with power hog Magnepans. However, the class A amps resolve detail magnificently and there is something to be said for using smaller amps as they often seem to have a sweeter sound than the larger beasts. I have read where some listeners feel they need the XA100 or XA160s, but I just can't quite imagine why, at least based on my experience listening primarily to jazz and acoustic music. I hope this is helpful to you.

Welcome jaydial,

just one question : did you compare the xa60.5 and xa100.5 side by side and if it is the case on which speaker and preamp??

Wilson Sophia 3 are easy to drive. I drove mine with 25w class a integrated amp and it was plenty loud.
They can definitely appreciate more power though.

That's true, WS3 are very easy to drive, but how better the preamp and amp will how better they will sing. WP8 are not so easy, they need great amp.
