Default JL Fathom Options, Help me choose

I have definitively settled on JL Audio subs. What I can't decide on is which model. My room is 28x22x10 with the screen on the wide wall. The room is open to a 14ft tall stairwell with a half height wall at the the top of the staircase. I will add bass treatments as necessary in the future and of course sound anchor sub stands Ivan.

My front mains are SF Liuto if that helps your thoughts any. The setup is for 50/50 2 channel (jazz, classic rock, a little classical) and HT. I am considering a pair of F112 in front and possibly a 3rd in the back down the road for HT only if the 2 aren't enough. The other options are either a pair of F113 or F212 - these 2 options would be one now and one later due to cost.

I'm not a bass nut but I do love to feel the impact of the material being played. What are your thoughts and can anyone tell me where I can demo any of these models in Houston, tx?

Two F113's is ample if you're not planning on dislodging the frame of your home from the foundation. JL subs are incredible. I have the baby F110's. Still scratching my head at how musical they are. My seaton submersives are fine for HT, but I would never have them see any serious two channel work. The JL's are so versatile.

F212 for 2 of these I think they are like a small Goth, bass is even faster and tighter INOP than the 213, but the 213 is great too.

gosh! I would do two F113d before a gotham. Things 400lbs! and if you are crazy four F113s would be best for placement and sound.

back to reality, a pair of F113s is really the sane limit.. and just a guess 3,000 cu ft plus or minus..

Three F112s is an accurate assessment, in my un professional opinion, for you room. :-)

Is there a downside to the 2 possibly 3 f112 approach? Does the f113 just blow the 112 out of the water or is it just a matter of extra oomph at the lowest frequencies?

I replaced my 1 F112, with 2 F113's on stands. I was not looking for a lot of bass but I do like to feel the bass even at low volumes and my room is not as large at yours. I use it mostly for stereo. I moved the f112 to the HT system in the man cave.

I didn't compare, I went straight for the F113. Now, I have read every review on the product line and the F110 is no joke! Much praise, and Mike sure will tell you what he thinks.

Here is one of my JL 113

I had two Fathom F113's doing LFE duty for HT in a 24 x 16 room and they were just loafing along at barely 9:00 on the gain dial. The room is heavily bass trapped. A Gotham or a F212 would be massive overkill in my room.

I just converted to using the two F113's in a stereo sub format for two channel. They are very musical, but now I am missing the LFE channel in HT, so I am going to add a third F113. I do not know how the F112 compares to the F113 for "musicality."
