Look what the cat draged in...
I just had a chance to get a pristine pair of Extremas from the local importer of SF complete with the six pilar stands. I have been playing these for the past four days and I must say they are AMAZING.
Fortunately I have a pair for ICEPower based 1000w monoblocks to drive them. This combination is out of this worlds in dynamics, image width and depth and overall tonality. I have also tried to drive the Extrema with a Beard P100 tube power amp which Ken Kesler says works great with the Extrema in his original review of the speaker from the 90's. I am one of the fortunate people to have the P100 Ken talks about so favourably. I must say the Beard is no match for the Extremas also it is a phenominal power amplifier as Ken mentions in a lot of his reviews over the years. As many have said in this forum, to reach the full potential of the Extrema you really need lots of power. That 1000w into 4 Ohms does wonders. I got this pair after returning a pair of Martin Logan Spire speakers planning to upgrade to the SF Elipsa. Now I am wondering if staying with the Extremas is not a better choice. Any thoughts? thanks ronenash

Go to Elipsa, you will not look back. Extrema has a fantastic midrange and extended bass for a montor, however it will not match the dynamics of the Elispa.

I listen mostly to Jazz with some classcal too. My room size is 12 by 16 feet with the speaker sitting on the 12 feel wall. The cieling is acoustically treated and slanted at 10' to 11'. Controlling bass is not an issue. I have my Lyngdorf preamp with Room Correction that takes care of this. I have been able to make most speakers I have sound beutiful in my room. Now to my main concern. The Extrema although it has a glorious midrange is missing some of the detail and transparency my Martin Logan had in spades. Will I get this detal and transparency back with the Elipsa? BTW, I am tempted to keep the Extrema it is a piece of art! Thanks ronenash
