Default Least Power for WP8 or Sophia III

Kind of bored and since I cannot move my system to one of the larger rooms I was thinking of just replacing mr L/R speakers in my HT set-up with either Sophia 3' or possibly WP 8's for the occasional listen via one of my SonoS units. I was just wondering what the least powerful SS amp that anyone has used with either of these speakers. If you are do not wish to post you can always PM me and I will not print it.

Jim

Jim, I just took my Simaudio i-7 integrated out of my Sophia 3 system, and it's 150wpc. The Sophias seemed to play a little more quietly than my B&W N802 (at the same volume setting), but I didn't ever get the impression the amp was straining. FYI, I'm not a loud listener, for the most part.

Talking Maim Nait XS

On their website, my local dealer claims to get great results with Sophias paired with a Naim Nait XS.

I haven't heard this combo myself yet but I plan to. At least for giggles.

I'm considering stretching my budget a bit for Sophias so I'm interested in the responses to this thread.

Oh and hi everyone, I'm Jason and this is my first post.

jasont...welcome to AA

Jim...I would think any solid 100wpc amp with a high quality power supply ought to do a fine job with the Sophia 3s. If you plan on listening to a lot of dynamic oriented content (music or movies) than more is always better

Jim, I used to run a 200 W class H amp with my Sophia 2's and it was "fine," in the sense that nothing sounded wrong. When I went to the BAT amp there was a noticeable improvement. I think Sophia's can sound pretty good at moderate volume with moderate gear. I think better gear makes them sing.

If WP8 shares the impedance curve of the Sashas you may need more power to be smooth.

Disclaimer: other things were improved along with the amp, so the improvements may be attributable to non-amp items.

Jim,

I know that they are tube amps but Art Dudley uses 25 W of power with his Sophia 3 : the Shindo Corton Charlemagne monoblocks.
I guess that they don't need too much power to perform well.
Jean Marc has WP8 with the 1.2kW amps and he told me that most of the time, they don't go higher than 10 W.

jasont Welcome to Audioaficionado
Well that Nait is a low power amp.

So no one here is using a low power unit with either of the speakers.
