Here is a funny story about Wilsons and amps. My Ref 110 blew a tube and at the same time took out some resistors, it is being fixed right now, but in the meantime I am using my Linn Classic that normally lives in our kitchen. I love it, it sounds great and it is hooked up with $2 per foot monster cable speaker wire.
This tell me a couple of things, The Classic is a great piece that someone can easily build a nice system around. The other is The S3s are an easy speaker to drive and David Wilson's goal of making them sound great without using ultra high-end associated equipment was met and then some. That said I am looking froward to getting the Ref 110 back into my system in a couple of days, but till them I am perfectly happy listening to my little Classic.

I'm using a BAT VK-300xSE (their integrated with a tube front end and a solid-state power amp section) with my Sophia 2's.
I like the combination. As this is the only amp that I've used with the Wilson's, I can't make any comparisons. |

Good afternoon chessman! You are indeed the only other BAT person I've noticed hanging out in the Wilson Audio section!
I guess that we're not quite numerous enough to have our own BAT section. |

I have Pass XA 100.5s and VTL 750s for my Maxx IIs. Both great with the trade off of tube glory for more detail with the Pass. But the VTLs give magic which. The Pass approach with better bass and that wonderful Pass midrange. I prefer the Pass overall due to the heat and lack of maintenance. But if the VTL sound came with equal convenience I probably would prefer the VTLs. Pass is as close to tubes as I have heard but the VTLs have that tube like highs that is delicious on that Focal tweeter. I do have a feeling the Dagastinos are as good as many have reported but at that price I would upgrade speakers.
