Default Subwoofer Recommendation

I have Sophia IIIs in a 21' x 26' room. During recent listening I felt I could use a little more bass articulation. I'm looking for quality bass that will seamlessly blend in with my Sophia's. Years ago I had a Martin Logan Depth i with Audio Physic Virgo IIIs and I promised that I would never get a sub again. Sasha's aren't an option for me; therefore I would love to find a way to improve my system for less than 4K. Recommendation are appreciated.

Get one JL Audio F113 now, a bit down the road you will want a second. Yes, they are that good!

Retail for an F113 in Gloss Black is $3700, I offer very special pricing for AA Subscribers such as yourself.

I've done a lot of reading on subs lately--I think you'll find this forum is overwhelmingly pro JL Audio--for $4000 maybe suggest 2-JL Audio F112's. Many folks recommend 2 subs to increase the soundstage and even out the nodes in the room.. btw I am ordering 2-F113s later this week from Master Chief Ivan. I have had two large SVS PB13 Ultras in my past. Good luck in your quest.

Mike

Bass articulation to match a Sophia seamlessly? Easy. A REL G2 qnd change back from your $4k..

Disclaimer: I work for the US REL distributor.

I have 2 JL F113's with my B&W 800Ds, great subs. I also have the REL G1 with my Sasha's and find it to be an excellent match for 2Ch music.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Chuck,

I understand my system is different than yours, but based on your listening experience do you think 2 JL F113's or 1 REL G1 would be the better fit. Will either sub effect the the rest of the audio spectrum?

Absolutely a properly integrated sub greatly affects the rest of the system. You should be able to hear the improvement easily - even when there is no bass playing. A solo flute recorded in a concert hall should sound way different in terms of attack, air, dimension and body. If it doesn't, your subs are not dialed properly or they are just not very good. Fortunately with the subs you are considering, the latter is not a problem.

Given the cost of 2 F113, I would suggest you consider 2 REL G2 as opposed to 1 REL G1. Again I am looking at the proper integration, not just more bass.
