I just completed reading Donna Tartt's "The Goldfinch", 2014 Pulitzer Prize winner for fiction and long time best seller. The best way I can think to describe this book is that it is a wonderful and brilliant mess.

Anyone have any thoughts?

It's interesting reading them in a fairly compressed time frame (about 6 months) and seeing how the characters and social mores evolve.
Great!
I have been thinking about reading all of Parker's series books in order, but no timeframe for me.

Read nearly all of Michael Connolly over the last two weeks, your finest thriller writer methinks. Up there with Kerr and Follett for sure.

Hope to Die by James Patterson. Wow, it gets dark and ugly in a hurry!

Lately, I've been reading the novels of W.E.B. Griffin. At work, I read Building Codes and related materials, you know boring stuff!

I just finished The Snowball

It was an interesting read and it shone a new light on Buffett. He fell down a notch in my admiration for what he has done. His relation to money is the complete opposite to mine and thus I couldn't relate to a lot of the choices he made. The author tried to redeem him in the later chapter of the books but I couldn't shake that first feeling. At least I felt it was an honest biography and with limited bias. She didn't enter into the details of some of his relationship with woman though you could guess what was behind.

Oddly enough, she didn't get much into the relation with the extended family and his second wife where you felt there was quite a lot of controversy and negative feedback on him.

I have started London the Biography by Peter Ackroyd.

Not a small book at over 800 pages but it is quite an interesting read on one of the world's greatest cities. He tried to convey the sense of chaos, noise and movement of a city that never stops. London is a very unique city with a strong sense of identity but not linked to nationality. The only other city like that is New York.

I was surprised by the choice taken by the author to jump through time and periods, going back and forth in the centuries. you can get lost in the chapter and not understanding where you are in time and place. I would have preferred a more traditional linear description of the evolution of the city rather than a themed one.

I'm at the first quarter of the book and will complete once I'm done.
