I am new here .
I was about to pull trigger for Classe SSP 800 and I happend to read about SP3.
Since I have gone through this thread where people like Kal and James Tanner are commenting on SP3 and am inclining toward Bryston Sp3.
My only concern is EQ issue with Bryston.
I am also new to HiFi audio thing not much experience .
Can any one advise how big is this EQ issue (not having that option on SP3. I have recently built a room (hometheatre) as my system did not sound good at all and some one suggested my room is a problem.

I am currently auditioning an SP3 in my home. What is the difference between HDMI OUT downmix vs loop through in the HDMI Setting in the source setup in the Other. Also What is the PCM ZR setting?

Has anyone been able to compare the SP3 to the Krell S1200?

Hi

Downmix is the stereo mix of a multichannel digital input if one is used.

The ZR (zero run) settings allows you to set (per source) the delay in how fast the SP-3 looks for a change in bitstream.

Hope you are enjoying the sound

james

A2k, please do let us all know your opinion of the SP3 once you are finished with your audition. You seem to have gone through many top shelf prepros recently (Cary C12, Classe SSP800, etc), so you are in a unique position to provide very relevant comparisons that would be helpful to us all.

Mohammad, since many welcomed you but nobody answered your question, lol, I will take a stab. The EQ question in my mind centers around two concerns: 1) how much help your room needs and 2) whether you like to tinker with tone controls to improve bad/mediocre recordings (this option varies in flexibility by unit, ie, fairly easy i think on Mac MX151 or MX121, pre-set profiles on Krell S1200, not sure on Classe SSP-800) .

Only you can really answer these questions, but if your room was built to a spec and includes or can include necessary and significant room treatment, perhaps #1 is not an important consideration. However, as good as your room is, you may still want to re-adjust your room treatment to accomodate the specific frequency anomalies of the speakers you choose. If you cannot, EQ may just add that last bit of fine adjustment. If you simply built a dedicated room and the acoustics suck and you cant add any physical treatments to the room, then a prepro with a robust EQ might very well be a better answer. Having said that, I've had numerous web discussions with Kal at Sterophile over this, and he believes that, even within his moderately treated room, the SP3 sounds better than any other prepro he's auditioned in recent memory (Kal, I hope I'm stating that correctly).

Hope that helps a little bit.
