Audiophiles can't tell the difference between Monster Cable and coat hangers

Ed.......You have made your position about cables perfectly clear in a number of threads. All I can say is hooray for your wallet if you hear no difference.

My experience with two high-end systems has been quite the opposite. Performance advantages were achieved with power cords, interconnects and speaker cables. The vacuuming noise I heard was the sound of cash being sucked from my wallet. Fortunately, I feel the investment is worth the return.

I am really hoping we don't see any pictures of coat hangers connected to the back of any MC2301s.

For reasons I cannot fully write down, this thread causes me to waffle between laughing it off or cancelling my membership. There must be something causing those extremes but I can't put my finger on it.

Craig.......I sure would hate to see a pair of coat hangers accidentally shorted together while connected to a MC2301. Even with Sentry Monitor I don't think this would turn out good.

Even I have heard differences with cables, though most easily with power and speaker cables. The only time I heard a real difference with interconnects was when I tried them out as my pre/power connection.

I have been thinking of returning my Kimber Hero to the system, removing the AQ King Cobras that are there now. If I do, perhaps I'll listen carefully to see if I hear any differences.

Simaudio do the same, supply a power cord but in the manual suggest that you use a high-end cable. I don't mind, so long as the supplied cable is worth peanuts and is charged as such.

The manufacturers provide the IEC outlet so that the customer can customize the power cord to their liking.

Craig.......To be perfectly honest with you, I have thought about trying coat hangers as speaker cables but I am too lazy to move my power amps that close to the speakers and all the other issues that entails. It would be interesting to perform the experiment of coat hangers against Home Depot speaker wire and high end speaker cables. The results would be entertaining at the least and possibly enlightening, although I have serious doubts the end result of such a test would have me ordering long lengths of insulated steel hanger wire.

My biggest worry about such an audition would be accidentally shorting the hangers together and damaging an amplifier. That would ruin my day completely and might require me to seek psychological evaluation for ever attempting such an experiment. Still, the thought has crossed my mind. There is no cure for audiophilia. .
