My plan exactly.

Ok I just finished my roon rock setup on a new i7 nuc, and I like what I'm hearing. It took a few hours to set up, including installing the hardware and updating the bios and then installing rock.

Spent the most time trying to get it to see my NAS... But all good now.

I'm running usb out directly to my dac.

I believe it is slightly better than the the Mac mini it is replacing. I hope it's more reliable and I can forget about tinkering. Seems like it! Good stuff.

Excellent Marc. What was the total expenditure on the project if you don’t mind sharing?

I am extremely happy with my SonicTransporter i7 Roon DSP core server. I previously ran my Roon core off of a mac mini i5, but changed over to the ST for a few reasons. Fan-less case was a big one. External power supply another. Last but not least, dual NICs are very important, as one port obviously connects to my Gigabit network, and the other connects directly to my Auralic Vega G2 streaming DAC, which provides a bit more isolation from network chatter...as it is bridged within the Linux OS. The ST is a quad core i7 with 8GB RAM and a 128GB flash drive for the OS and Roon DB. All music is on a Synology DS916+ with a DX513 expansion shelf..good for 16TB with read/write SSD cache. The ST has ample horsepower to upsample all my hi-res to DSD 512, while handling multiple zones and a rather large local library of hi-res.
