I listen to the S1 yesterday and was told the high gloss automotive finishes are a $2600.00 premium over the standard price. I saw the dealer color samples the high gloss look great. The dealer had the the S5 in blue and I took the color sample to the speaker and looked. I didn't see any variation in color.

Hi rthomeint,

Magico have a "Ral" from 12 colors: 6 normal & 6 special but the price difference is very high for the quality of the finished offer....

with a "piano black" or so like that you can see a big difference but on the almost others save your money!!!!

style

I know a pair of speakers which would kill the S1's, and they may be up for grabs

I was slightly underwhelmed. The highs were good, not bright or lean sounding. The mids very nice but not magic. I thought they did a good job with vocals. The biggest problem I have with this speaker is it is a $13,000 floor standing mini monitor. I brought CDs that had well defined bass. I want to see how low the speaker could go and it was not well defined below the mid thirties I would say. You see how hard that woofers were working to get there. I didn't push the speaker beyond the 90 db and that speaker was working hard. The dealer said you cannot blast this speaker at high levels. I think they need a bigger woofer. The other problem I have with these speakers is in that set up they didn't have a good sense of acoustical space. I did not hear the ambiance of the space on the CDs I played. I was told that the room sounded bad intentionally so I have to take the dealer's word on that. But that is the biggest thing bothered me. The setup was a Plinus Hiato integrated amp, a Primare CD32 player and Nordost cables. I want to take a listen again with different equipment to see if the are better than I think now. At the price with the high gloss finish you are in Wilson Sophia range then which at this point I like better. I am trying to keep an open mind about this.
