Not me...

The human element is also present in the design and development of the software and systems we will/do stake our lives on. Brought to you/us probably by alot of offshore development by less expensive resources, and inexperienced people who think that Agile Software Dev Methodology means you can make up shit as you go along and fix it as you go [emoji1787]

BTW, Don't forget about the 737MAX too as this software by humans worry applies to most every aspect of our lives.

I'm fairly confident in saying ADVs may never completely be able to surpass an experienced human operator under extreme foul-weather conditions.

Regardless of whether we like the idea or not, autonomous vehicles will become common. First, transportation is the largest expenditure after housing for most Americans, and it’s only logical that the big tech companies want a piece of that pie. Second, we have an aging, car dependent population; inadequate investment in public transportation; and ever-increasing traffic congestion - the demand will be there once levels of trust improve, and that will happen as investment continues.

I like the idea of being able to relax on long drives, reading, eating, surfing the web.
Ik also like the idea that it will be safer. Computers do beat humans regarding rapid reactions, and complex calculations in difficult situations. Think of chess: we were already beaten bu PCs in the 90s...
It will lead to less (and also ownership of) cars in the cities. You will simply ask for a car on an app if you happen to need one. Like Uber without drivers.

Disadvantage: for such amounts of data in traffic, we might need 5G, and I don't like the idea of being microwaved at all times.

Yes, we worry that computers will not be able to react the way humans do, yet airline pilots will tell you now that, in severe turbulence, the autopilot system is much more effective at managing the plane than a pilot is.

The words "fairly" and "may" in the same sentence add a great degree of lack of confidence... [emoji51]

Both vehicles will coexist. I think that many people will have no need to own such driverless vehicles but only because they can ride them (Uber for example) without having to own them.
