As with most modern McIntosh power amps, you'll be able to experiment with taps. My Focals are nominally rated at 8 Ohms, dipping to 3.5 Ohms minimum. I've found them to sound the best connected to the 8 Ohm taps.

Thank you Jayvis, I just looked and the Scalas are rated as minimal impedance of 3.1 Ohms. I will experiment.

I don't agree with the Sopras being colored at all. I'm sure many others will agree.

+1 They just aren't quite up to the Utopia level in sound, cost or size.

the Sopra line was designed by a German lady and the bass was designed to be colored more of an American sounding speaker from one of Focals designers mouth not mine

My personal experience doesn't agree. Killergurt, did you make a decision yet? I didn't hear the Scalas, so they may well be superior, but in comparing the Sopra 2 and 3, the 3 had a larger presence and scale. So if I were you I would compare the Scala and Sopra 3 if possible.

Thank you for this. I decided to go with the Scala. If I went with the Sopra it would have been the 3’s.

Awesome, if they were available at the current price when I got my Sopras, I would have definitely listened and possibly got them for myself. Looking forward to your impressions and photos.

I understand the difference between the Sopra 2 and 3 I owned both sets when first released and powered with there native voiced Naim reference system,in the past 3 years I've sold the Sopra 2's & 3's and got the Scala V2's finally a reference speaker now my V2's are sold and it will be a choice of the Maestro Utopia III or Scala EVO

So did you find the Scala V2 superior to the Sopra 2 and 3? Or just different?
