Adding the big shag rug helped quite a bit. I also added some additional lally columns in the crawspace which made the floor more rigid and helped with some sympathetic resonance.

I have a couple of GIK 244 panels that I was experimenting with behind the speakers prior to the arrival of the media cabinet but unfortunately they are huge and just don't fit that well any more. I'm probably going to be selling them soon.

One of the difficulties of the room is that the walls are very irregular. The right channel first reflection point has a huge bay window. Pulling the cellular shades down while listening helps some. The left channel first reflection point has a curved fireplace and not much wall space available at all. I was thinking about maybe trying a plant for diffusion in both of those places since I can't really find a way to get more absorption.

There really is only one corner that could benefit from a corner trap (because the others are open to hallways etc) and that corner is kind of cramped.

The other treatment I was considering was the ceiling, but need to find something the wife would approve of. There are some nice looking diffusion products out there.

Well said! Everything in the living room is a negotiation and I'm lucky that my wife has let a number of things go "my" way.

I've wondered about that myself. Sometimes I've wondered if there is slightly more volume in the right channel, but shifting my listening position by even a tiny amount can have a greater effect so it's hard to tell.

In any event, there is very little I can do about it and it's definitely the best position available in the room.

Beautiful room and tastefully done. I think the WAF can sometimes keep us from spinning out of control.

I have seen and heard some incredible sounding rooms that looked beautiful without resorting to "audio control room" acoustic treatments. One dealer that I knew was especially adept at using sculptues, wall art, dried plant arrangements and many other objects that would be found in a designer home. For instance, a large vase with bamboo stalks of various diameters makes a very good diffusor. A metallic sculpture wall art piece (dolphins in this case) creates diffusion but keeps the sparkle in the sound field. So, thinking along these lines can maintain the beautiful aesthetic of the room and improve the sonics.
