Two other examples of companies with similar warranty extension with registration (although they provide an online registration option) are Bel Canto and Martin Logan.

Thanks, audiobill. I've bought cars and timepieces in the $30k+ range and have not been exposed to this approach to warranty coverage. The limited audio companies I considered didn't require it, but I see you're right -- others do. What a strange practice. I wonder what their reason is for doing so, and if it is unique to the audio space.

Some watch makers are going to E-Warranty registration.

Breitling's been rolling out a new worldwide e-warranty system, doing away with a paper/plastic warranty card. The COSC certificates have an RFID chip that can be read by a device that the AD's will have in the store. You purchase a watch, the reader activates an electronic card that reflects the purchase date, the length of the warranty, and the Serial/Model #'s.

The machine automatically backs up to Breitling's server, so they have a record of the watch being sold, and at which AD, and the date that it was sold.

No more paper warranties. It'll also help Breitling see which watches are selling, what needs to be re-ordered, and try to reduce the number of pieces on the grey market.

I just want to add another voice to the claim that your dealer can take care of you and handle any warranty issues with Ayre. I've forgotten to send in my cards, had to have some repairs done, and my dealer made it all a piece of cake. I think the underlying 'worry' (if there is one) is to be sure your dealer has a good relationship with Ayre!

@Manbient -- on target. Well-respected Audio Consultants in the Chicago area ensured that Ayre (Michael) confirm by email to me that the card had been received and the extended warranty is indeed in place.
