After putting over a 115 hours on the bullets, my impression has not changed substantially from listening at just over 20 hours. Yes, they have gotten better at what they do--retrieve low level info down to the humidity of the fret bar, lower noise floor and make backgrounds blacker--but they also seem to be doing more of the not so good stuff: reducing ambience (sense of space), decay and bloom. It is a conundrum to me how both the good and bad co-exist, since you would think pulling up low level info would create more air, etc.

Maybe this has something to do with the bullets being paired with tube amps--others in this thread with tube amps shared my experience. I don't know. What I do know is when you take them out it is like someone pulling a thin blanket off the sound--as if the volume got nudged up.

Mike Vice offered no resistance to my returning them. Obviously, they are making some people happy...

There's a thread on another forum where some of these devices were dissected for measurements. Essentially there's a metal foil resistor in the signal path. It appears the resistance itself is not up for debate, but perhaps a bit of EM theory of how that style of resistor impacts the signal path. Assuming the measurements were properly made, there was no measurable difference than an off-the-shelf metal foil resistor that costs around a dollar. Again the discussion there was to see if there was a measurable difference, not if it changed the characteristics of the sound for the human ears.

At best if you feel it improves the sound to cover the cost then you got a bargain.

I've just come about this thread and found it very interesting. And one thought I have is what people experience when these are first installed and the burn/break in time needed before the bullets start doing there best. If it were me using them I would burn them in but no listen during this period. Then one I had 250-300 hours on them I would place them in my two channel set up and do some critical listening. I think that doing the burn in and listening doesn't give you a good enough base line. You plug them in and listen and listen and over time become used to what you are now hearing and not always for the better. Just my opinion on the matter.
