With the SPU you use the built-in MC? Have you compared the MM between them with an external SUT? I'd love to check all 3 of these out with Matt when I'm up @ Pitch Perfecto next time.
I just received from Matt an A23 external sut. It is most definitely an improvement over the internal Masseto sut. Never had a chance to hear the Monbrison with an external sut. Shindo in my opinion is a perfect example of you get what you pay for. The more expensive pre amp will always reward you more. I'm a few pennies away from pulling the trigger on a Cortese. Listened to it at Matt's and I'm very excited to make the upgrade from my Montille. When you go to Matt's place give yourself a few hrs at least and A&B as much stuff as you can. Just be warned that the more you listen the more it will cost you.

I think all of his internal MC inputs are loaded for his SPU (most likely under 100 ohms I would think). For any other cartridge I think the focus should be on the quality of the MM with an external SUT loaded properly. If you noticed an upgrade I think you have to be listening to the A23 Hommage T1 SUT?

Really jealous of the Cortese... Would love to pair that with my Aurieges for a phono only system and then come back around for a pre-amp upgrade later. Please post pics, impressions, etc if you end up pulling the trigger.

A little confusing but just a part of the mystique of Shindo I guess.

Junker,

Just to be clear, I had a great setup with just the internal sut of my Masseto and my Ortofon SPU.I believe it is designed around all SPUs, not just the Shindo modded ones. Don't forget the Shindo SPUs are only available on his TT
which is around $30K. But when I added the standard A23 SPU sut it was a definite improvement. I believe it was around $1400. The T1 Hommage is around $5K. didn't make sense to me to spend almost as much on a SUT as my TT is worth. It's pretty simple with Shindo. How much is the Aurieges? $5K? The Monbrison is $8K. The Masseto is $13K. Just decide how much you want to spend, you will be rewarded accordingly. Can't really make a mistake with Shindo. Pre amp is where the magic is. Just pair it with the amp that works with your speaker load.

dirtbag,

Good point when you explain:The T1 Hommage is around $5K. didn't make sense to me to spend almost as much on a SUT as my TT is Worth.

But when you upgrade your TT look the Hommage it's a great SUT.
