I see that I forgot to mention a nice little system, that can be had for a not exuberant amount of €.

Hegel - Focus Audio room

Some pics of the gear in that room:



















The system we were listening to was:
Amp: Hegel H3000 (2x250W/8 Ohms - with built in DAC): 4550€
Speakers: Focus FP-80SE: 6700€/pair
Source: MacBook Pro

Nice sound coming out of those little floorstanders!
Good imaging, powerful bass, quite good soundstage.
I think the Hegel is a serious contender in its price category, and considering it has a DAC included, it can be the heart of a very minimalist system.
