Another thing to consider - I had to return my Oppo 95 due to fan noise. I could easily hear it every time it came on (which was pretty frequently).

Of course your setup, equipment rack, background noise tolerance etc will all have some bearing, but for me, the fan killed the deal. I currently "suffer" with the 93 (which honestly is not a bad player at all), though just as with most of my equipment, I remain vigilant for other options.

Cheers

I guess it depends on your objectives. It is certainly a cheap and easy option.
Yes I am using a garrard 301
I did buy the RCA living stereo sacd's of classical performances, 46 of them, at around $7 each just to keep as an option for the future given how well received they are. (many are viewed better than the vinyl and much less expensive )

I will decide later whether to try sacd, and maybe a great player will come up used. In no hurry to go digital right now.

Thanks for the clarification between the 2 players, guys. The 95's the one, it seems.

---...Analog (95), mainly for the analog connections. ...MUSIC.

The 93 is the exact same for MOVIES & digital connections.

There's a Vivaldi now.

I have compared the Puccini to the similarly priced XDS1 and ended up choosing the XDS1.

Is the mcd500 better for sacd than the oppo 95 - or maybe who knows the new 105

The transport is identical to the Oppo 93 so it reads all discs very quickly and does not seem to complain much with whatever discs I throw at it. I have seen some SACDs not being read as CDs on my Denon 4010 universal player (which is also noticeably slower at reading discs) and my Marantz SA8003.

But the 95 is more refined with a better power supply and a better DAC and has much better analog circuitry vs the 93. If you are using the player as a transport and using an HDMI cable to your AV receiver, the 93 is a more sensible buy since you are bypassing the DACs on the player.

Get the 95 if you are looking for a reasonably good player for your HT and your stereo setup.

If your budget can stretch further...

If you are serious about sound quality for multi-channel SACD/BR/DVDA playback, I think my ultimate combo still has to be the Denon two box solution: the A1UD universal transport with the A1HDC (DSX XT32 HDMI 1.4) AV pre/pro hooked up using HDMI and DenonLink 3/4. The master clock control IMHO makes a difference with BD PCM audio and DL3 sounds very good as a DSD/SACD connection vs HDMI.

If price is no object and you are looking for 2 channel SACD only, have a listen to
a. EMM Labs (XDS1 or the new 2 box TSDX+DAC)
b. Playback Designs MPS5
(have experience with both the XDS1 and MPS5 in my own system)
c. Esoteric K-01/03
d. dCS Puccini
(heard those in showrooms, with the Puccini vs XDS1 in the same setup) but still preferred my first 2 choices.
Now I am thinking the k-03 might be the ticket - though 10x more than the new oppo 105

But my system is moderate high end so ... ?

I don't know your choices (a) and (b )

Is the k-03 sufficiently better than the 105, given 25% or less usage vs analog?

It is easy to spend someone else's money...!
