Default How do you guys find new music?

I feel somewhat lame for asking this, but I get into a rut and listen to the same stuff over and over. How do you guys find new stuff? I usually scope out the threads on here and that's the only way I can find good stuff, but it's time consuming as I just listen to one album at a time that people recommend. Any suggestions?

My main go to sources for exploring new music is Spotify (The free version), YouTube, and the Steve Hoffman Forums. Sometimes I'll mess around on Spotify looking for new stuff but from a music lovers perspective, it's hard to top the Hoffman forums for music information, the amount of members and the in depth information about music, album versions and CD/vinyl pressings is almost overwhelming.

Every Friday I check out the new releases on Tidal. I also pick up a tune in a movie or on TV that leads me to a new artist. My nephew calls me with the occasional suggestion.

New music comes to me thru weekly emails or visiting their websites from Music Direct, Acoustic Sounds, Elusive Disc, Audio Fidelity, MusicMattersJazz, MOFI, Speakerscorner (.de), back to black, SHF, Analog Planet, The Absolute Sound, ToneAudio, Hi-Fi + Mag, or just walking in Target & browsing their CD shelves.

Yes, some are reissues, but they have many more unknowns (to me anyways).

BTW, don't overlook the AA Music Forums (what u spinning, etc). Great ideas there almost everyday.

Best Sir,

Bob

Music discovery is so easy today. So many avenues. The problem is not discovery, the problem is digesting it all.

Presto Classical>new releases, classical
AllMusic>Editors' Choices, classical and popular
Primephonis>New releases, (CD quality Europe streaming service) classical
Tidal or Spotify new releases for popular music

Presto is awesome because it lists future release up to 90 days out and is filled with info.
Primephonic is great because their new releases are European release dates, generally ahead of the USA releases.

Then of course there are the classical forums like GMG and Talk Classical. Threads devoted to new releases and listening threads are chuck full of info for discovery.

You also have the catalogs like HB Direct along with all the concert venue mailing of upcoming shows that fill the mail box and inbox.

It's NEVER been so easy to discover music as it is today.

Good ideas above.
I also get a lot of good suggestions from our classical radio station (that also plays jazz, folk and blues).
For classical buffs: Fanfare Magazine.

This is a great topic. I am very critical of today's music and I have a tough time finding stuff I like. I have a variety of methods, with varying degrees of success.

1. Find someone with similar tastes and bounce ideas and discoveries with them. I do this with my two brothers, who are pretty much into music with similar tastes. They are NOT audiophiles.
2. Look at what people are listening to here, and give it a shot
3. RMAF rooms...pay close attention when you visit a show and take notes of new stuff you like.
4. Spotify or Tidal poking around: I sometimes will just sit around with my ipad and listen to stuff for hours (on the ipad!) trying to find something that is good enough to add to my favorites and listen on the stereo.
