Hi Brent,
Thanks for posting some pics. The first thing to consider is some drapes for the windows in the back of the room. Makes a huge difference. You can add some panel in between the windows as well. You can add some acoustic panels behind the speakers. Art panels are nice, for sure, but they definitely stand out and so you may have fewer placement options with them than with more neutral panels. The first reflection points on the side walls are usually great places to put panels. You find them by placing a mirror on the side wall and moving it around until you can see your speaker in it. That's a good place to put a panel.
Try moving the coffee table out of the room. Just try it and see if the imaging improves.

Tom

Good advice. Drapes and some panels behind speakers will help. I got cheapo auralex panels from guitar center. Got rid of my echo.

Thanks for all of your suggestions! Alexander at GIK identified my ceiling as the area in most need of treatment. The room is oriented so that the ceiling slopes from high (near the speaker wall) to low (near the listener.) He believes taking care of the first reflection point here will yield the biggest results.

Excellent! Lots of options for very unobtrusive panels on the ceiling.

my slap echo greatly reduced when i placed panels on the side walls. The panels in back of the speakers in the corners evened up the bass but did not effect echo. i have a big draped window in back of my speakers. The opposite wall, 30 ft away is across the hallway in the room opposite my stereo room, an open 5 sided box. I am dubious of ceiling treatment cleaning up slap echo without considerable help from side wall treatment. Please come back with results. When i treated my room i put too many panels in and removed a couple and went to thinner panels. Expect a learning curve.

Since Jerome didn't post this on his own, I am taking the liberty.

When Jerome says use pillows everywhere on the ceiling and walls, HE MEANS IT!
