IF I were not a d2 owner and you had me come in for a demo on my own, I might not be so sure as you need time to know one before you can absolutely be sure you can tell it apart from the other.
You would fail to hit 100% accuracy. I'd wager a good chunk of change on it especially if playing a handful of different tunes. If doing an ABX you would be shocked at how little you got it right. There typically comes a point where you would even start second guessing yourself in a ABX. When doing an AB it's easier to do the mental comparison because you don't spend valuable seconds trying to decide did you or didn't you hear a difference.

I agree having spent time with one or the other helps to establish a baseline of sorts but it's not going to get you where you think you would be.

The tests are fascinating to either participate in directly or witness others go through it.

Was told they are not shipping yet but have the OK to do the same blind test with the 802 D3s and the 800 D3s when they do come in (seems like July from what I was told).
Wish they still had the 802 D2s there so I could include them as well.

The press release states that it will be available in July, priced at US$ 15,000 each, or US$30,000 per pair.

Interesting, so just $6000 more than the 800D2's is that correct? I believe the D2's were $24,000.

I believe the new 802D3 is closer to the 'old' 800D and that this version should be the flagship well above the 800D, or at least if I remember the B&W quotes when launched.

Joey, did you have a chance to compare the 802D3 vs the 800D?

No, the 800D3 and 802D3 are pretty much the same. All driver tech is the same. Just that the 800D3 has slightly more volume and wider bass units so will go a smidge lower
