Ortofon, like the others, has a "house sound". If you like the Quintet, then moving up their chain to one of the Cadenza models will get you more of the same, only with a more refined sound. I'm certainly pleased with my Ortofon cartridges. But, am also pleased with my AT cartridges. Can't go wrong with either.

I have been fortunate to own quite a few cartridges over the years. Just like anyone I have a few favorites. I admit to liking the Dynavector 17D series, although the latest version is getting a bit pricey.
I also find that I like Ortofon cartridges, and the best one I have owned is the A90. Although I will say the Cadenza Blue is one of my favorites, as its a remarkably detailed and balanced cartridge. It flies a bit under the radar, but its a good one worth seeking out. I have had several of the AT moving coils, but not the ART9. Lots of people love that cartridge, and I think it would offer great value for the dollar. But I have not owned it,so do not have a definitive opinion. If trying to keep things cost effective, perhaps an Ortofon Quintet Black would be a good option also. Cheers Mister Pig |
