Default MC2505 with and without meter bezel?

Does anyone know why some 2505s have meter bezels and some do not? Was this a production change at some point? Any input would be helpful.
Thanks!

I have never seen a 2105 or 2505 that had a meter bezel. Was the one you saw modified?

No. In fact if you look at the mcintoshaudio.com site, you will see a photo of the MC2505 has bezels. (click on little circle off to the right of the listing)

I could be mistaken but I think a alteration of the meter housing design behind the glass creating the illusion of a bezel in front of the glass.

In one style the meter appears recessed while the on the other, the meter appears to flush with the glass as is most usually seen.

I have also never seen any MC 2505 or 2105 with bezels on the glass.

I spoke to my Audio Classics contact last week and he had never seen them either. If you do a Yahoo image search on the MC2505, you will see a few amps with the bezels... Hmmmm....

I agree....it appears the bezels are behind the glass....

Jon.......The two photos below clearly show two different types of meter faces in the MC2505 power amp. McIntosh manufactured 11,421 MC2505 amplifiers between January 1967 and December 1977. The MC2505 was McIntosh's very first separate solid state amplifier. It was also their first amplifier to have an all glass front panel, Sentry Monitor circuit and autoformers.

There are two versions of the MC2505. During a running production change McIntosh changed the serial number designation. The original serial numbers were 10K01 through 99K99. After the production change the serial numbers were AT1001 through AT3424. Most likely the meter bezel was removed from the front panel design to modernize the appearance of the MC2505 during this production change. The newer meters are also larger than the original design.
