Default SonoS and OS-X Lion

I happend to see this post regarding OS-X Lion capability with SonoS today. If any of you currently access your music off of a Apple computer using Snow Leopard, you will want to hold off upgrading to Lion 'till SonoS upgrades their software. Here is the link.

This is very common with many apps, peripherals, etc whenever there is a new Mac OX major release (not mention bugs that are alway present in first .0 release). If you think audio is bad, try dealing with Epson Printer drivers, profiles, RIPs and ICC paper printing profiles for color management. That can be a nightmare. This is why I always wait until there is a 10.X.4 or later release before upgrading.

My last upgrade to Snow Leopard pretty much ruined my previously excellent WiFI connectivity. Did so for lots of other folks as well; there were LOTS of complaints on the Apple boards about that.

I was looking for the latest on the SonoS and OS-X 10.7 Lion compatibility and here is a link.

http://forums.sonos.com/showthread.php?t=23442

Good new for me. I do not use SonoS to access music files off my Apple laptops. All my music I distribute is located on my MS-300 so I can use the SonoS Desktop application and everything is running normal.

Right, I received an email from Sonos about this two weeks ago and posted it in another thread. This is a little different though in that the email from Sonos indicated the desktop controller had compatibility issues with Lion, not that files wouldn't be accessible.

Hmm, actually re-reading it there's an indication both the controller and access are affected:

Important information for Sonos Mac users

Dear Valued Sonos Customer,

Our records show that you are a user of the Sonos Desktop Controller for Mac. As you may know, Apple has released an upgrade to its Mac OS X software, version 10.7 (Lion).

The new Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) release is not compatible with your current Sonos system if your Music Library is stored on your Mac.

We will have an update to your Sonos Desktop Controller for Mac very soon and will notify you when it is available. In the meantime, please stay with your current version of OS X.

If you have any questions please contact our Technical Support team at:

www.sonos.com/support/contact

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

Sincerely,

The Sonos Quality Team

Thanks for the additional info.

Sonos and Lion resolution coming soon
Progress Report: Sonos and Lion resolution coming soon

First things first. We’d like to apologize. We know that not being able to use your Sonos system with Lion (Mac OS X 10.7) has been a real drag.

What’s taking so long? Trust us, we’re not happy either. The Sonos team has been working feverishly with the team at Apple for the last month, and we’ve had some challenges that delayed the fix. The good news is that we’ve worked with Apple to isolate the problem and we believe we have a fix. To make sure it’s right, we’re going to test it rigorously before releasing it to you.

The long and the short of it. We are began beta testing earlier this week and if all goes well, we expect that you will be able to enjoy Sonos with Lion in the next two weeks. We promise to let you know the moment it’s ready.

Thanks again for your patience.

Sincerely,

Andrew Schulert
Vice President, Quality
Sonos, Inc.

I received the following email from Sonos this morning;

Update: Sonos is now Lion-friendly

Good news: Mac OS X 10.7 Lion works with Sonos®. Even better news: the solution is ready for download. Just select Check for Updates in the Sonos menu on your Sonos Controller for Mac. Now you can play all the music stored on your Mac in every room with Sonos and use Lion. Problem solved.

Thank you for your patience as we worked out this incompatibility issue. We're sorry if this interrupted your music listening in any way. If you still have questions, please don't hesitate to contact our Technical Support team at: Support for your Sonos Wireless Music System

Sincerely,

Yes, I updated all my gear earlier today. As long as you were not accessing music off a laptop with Lion there were no issues between Lion and SonoS.

I have been using the web interface for SonoS on my MacBook Air with Lion and everything worked the same as Snow Leopard when pulling music off my MS-300. I did get a message that I had to cancel out whenever I reopened SonoS, but no other issues.
