I drive about 15,000 miles per year.
Bart.......Getting 20 mpg at 130 mph on the Autobahn seems good to me. The highest legal speed limit in the USA is 85 mph in Texas.

I would expect the 3.0L diesel to get very good fuel mileage.

I have a Ford Fusion Hybrid and get about 42 mpg in combination highway and stop & go traffic. Drive about 35,000 miles per year. While the Fusion hasn't had any problems and gets good gas mileage, it is soulless. There is no driving experience other than getting from point A to point B.

Steve.......Some vehicles, particularly hybrid's with a few exceptions, are so slimmed down to achieve high mileage that there isn't much left. None the less, 42 mpg average is impressive.

Your figures are meaningless without the average MPH over the calculated MPG distance

Anyone can get what appears to be good MPG driving 30MPH and coasting as much as possible

Before the F150 I owned a 2012 Jaguar XF with the 5.0L V8 that produce 385 HP with the six-speed automatic transmission. That vehicle was quite peppy and was difficult to keep one's foot out of it because it was so quick and sounded so good under throttle. Despite my driving habits with the Jag and its 4100 lbs. of weight, I still managed 19 mpg running around and 24 mpg on the highway. Not bad for a lead foot enjoying a healthy V8.

What has surprised me is the 2015 Tahoe LTZ, with a 5.3L V8 and six speed automatic transmission, manages to deliver a consistent 19 to 20 mpg running around doing errands and delivered 24.4 mpg as its best highway mileage so far. Considering the Tahoe weighs just over 5300 lbs., I consider the highway mileage to be excellent for a vehicle of its size and weight.

The photo below was taken this afternoon of the Tahoe's information center after driving Marlene to a doctor's appointment and back home(25 miles round trip), then into Live Oak to the pharmacy, the bank, and then back home (28 miles round trip). I averaged 20.5 mpg during todays drive. Naturally I'd be happy to get twice that mileage but for a full size SUV that is good fuel mileage. I attribute this directly to GM's new 5.3L Ecotec3 engine with direct injection and active fuel management that deactivates four cylinders when extra power isn't needed. It works seamlessly and I think the fuel mileage for this class of vehicle speaks for itself. Color me happy.

So, how's your fuel mileage?

Kingsrule.......The majority of the time I run 60 mph on the rural highway from my home into town. 85% of my miles driven is at that speed. I am seldom on the Interstate, with the last time being 9 months ago. It is 14 miles to town and all but the last mile to the grocery store in town is posted 60 mph. I usually make that drive once a week, plus three times a week I drive 2 miles each way to my little rural post office, again on 60 mph posted highway. Although an average is representative of all speeds driven over a specific distance, it wasn't my intent to gather specific information about speed and distance. The point of my topic is to just inquire about the kind of average mileage people are getting with different vehicles and engines.

2014 BMW 328d (diesel) is averaging around 43.5 mpg and it is reporting 50 plus mpg highway in Eco Pro mode. With a full tank it reports 570 miles per tank. Amazing. But if I go into Sport mode with Sport gearing for the transmission it drops to mid 20's mpg. I get all I need in speed and pick up in Comfort mode for everyday use and Eco Pro mode for highway and only go into Sport mode when the mood strikes.

'12 Equinox LTZ with 184hp 2.4L engine averages 29.2mpg per the trip computer with the driving I do. Southern NJ is considerably more rural than most folks think, so most of my local mileage is on 2-lane highways (17mi to the grocery in the morning). As it is my 'carry-all' for the various matches I attend each year it all ready has 76K miles on the odometer and has been faultless (other than a failed battery while under warranty).
Wife's C350 Sport goes about 7-8Kmi each year and averages about 24mpg. We have not taken a trip in it, but will be heading down the Skyline Drive to Ashville during 'leaf season' this fall and will find out. It truly is a delightful car. So much so that I'm thinking the 2-door model should join it in the garage.

keep in mind King the avg push rod motor performs it's best (efficiency) when run at or below 2000 rpm's. My truck (Chevy Silverado, 5.0, 3.73 gears) runs @ 2000 rpm's right around 68 mph. I can only manage 20 mpg at best cruising @ 75 mph, whereas drop down to 65-68 and I pick up 2-3 mpg

Hmmm, I've always believed peak efficiency (mpg) is achieved at or near the engines peak torque.
