Your/a machine would nee IEC EQ (the European standard) to playback basically all currently manufactured R2R tapes. Most pro-sumer machines, like my Technics for instance, came only came equipped with NAB EQ. Thus would need to add electronics, eg rebuild and bypass the unit's stock electronics to add IEC.

Here's a question in regard to my Teac 3340s. Do you know of anyone who might upgrade/customize them?

After some considerable time weighing up the comparisons, options & risks associated with owning a vintage R2R, I'm now in the process of acquiring an A810 MkII.

The unit has good providence. It being one of the last 10 units ever made, had only light production use in a short time & has undergone restoration & recapping by Studer. New OEM butterfly heads have less than 90hrs on them.

The portable configuration will end up being trolley mounted & wheeled in for the occasional use.

The example will make a great collectable & addition. Fingers crossed.

Steve.......This will be a very nice analog addition to any system. the Studer A810 MkII is a fine profession level reel to reel that I know you will enjoy.

Myles...EPROMs are 2591. Should I be concerned about this version? I believe Studer used these right up to 1996.

I think I have given up my desire to own a Studer. I am staying with my Teac 3340s.

I'm far from an expert on Studers but if you need that question answered, I can refer you to Ki Choi who's a Studer expert (he probably owns 20-30 of them by now). He can take them apart and put them back together blindfolded. Just let me know and I can PM you.

Myles

Myles...Very much appreciated. Any info, expert and resource would be most helpful. I've been assured of a good ten years but as you know there is so much with the A810 along with its peripheral cards that anything could go.

All things good, I should have the unit in 1-2 weeks with the trolley to follow & maybe some spares.

Studer A810 MK II is on its way. It will also come with a separate pair of NOS A820 tranfoless amplifier cards (which can be driven by the last of the A810s), Studer hubs, couple of Revox reels & adaptors. Heads are late Studer OEM 2mm NAB optimised for The Tape Project.

Also a cutting kit, but I think I will remove the blades...

Pics when it lands.
