Upgrading to a second sub for those with a single V1 has now become a bit of a problem

New model may be more advanced, but they have a lot of adjustability. I imagine they can work together.

You could make V2 the "master" and V1 the "slave" and take advantage of the more sophisticated ARO of the V2, while still getting the advantage of two subs providing a more even frequency response. The room responds in the aggregate anyway.
