The quality issues I had/have with the MXA60, specially with the subpar paintjob of the speakers (minor but annoying) , and the smearing of the glass front on the inside (annoying) are frankly unacceptable for such an expensive product.

The trouble with the glass front is partly resolved by the importer...however, it was not a pleasant experience, and frankly I cannot bring myself to return the unit again and be treated like a difficult customer...I solved that problem for them...I'll go and shop in Germany for McIntosh products. Nevertheless, and I can only speak for myself, McIntosh has to up its game when it comes to quality control before I will consider forking over a lot of money for their products.

THX for indulging me this minor rant. And in returning to the original intent of this thead...what I would like to see are new McIntosh products that set the benchmark when it comes to QC or QA or whatever one wants to call it.

I beleive somewhere on AA, Ivan posted Mc was looking at launching a new line of "reasonably priced" speakers.....is this still the case?

They are overdue to introduce an affordable line.

McIntosh needs to make a line of subwoofers, putting together in one component their amplifier/speaker expertise. I don't know anything about JL Audio. I asked my dealer who is quite knowledgeable, he said he had sold JL forever and thought them to be good subwoofers but nothing spectacular. I don't know why Mac doesn't make a line of subwoofers. Application of their room correction technology to a line of active subwoofers would seem ideal.

I find it very surprising that your dealer would refer to JL Audio subwoofers as "good, but nothing spectacular."

Many, including myself, will tell you that JL is the only subwoofer line that they consider to be "spectacular." While there are other manufacturers catching up to what JL has achieved with their home audio subwoofers they are, in my opinion, still considered to be the reference standard in sound quality and output capability against which all others are compared. Countless end user and professional reviews easily support this statement.

I am not suggesting that McIntosh could not make excellent subwoofers if they choose to, but JL Audio already manufactures some of the finest examples to be manufactured to date.

I am sure that others will offer their opinion on this as well.

The XLS340 and XLS360 were never affordable but with even those gone from the lineup it's a pretty big jump from the XLS320 to the XR200.
