If it is truly a suspension failure and you purchased new then I'm guessing that Sumiko will stand behind it for warranty. It is quite unusual, though not unheard of, for the suspension to fail.

Paul or Peter? Thought Peter did all retips.
Peter, my typo! :^(

Agree with Formerly YB-2. I used to frequently apply MoFi's lp #9 liquid cleaner to the stylus. After reading about the fact that it contains alcohol and other solvents, I switched to a combo of Onzow Zerodust and a stiff brush supplied with carts by Dynavector. I will use lp #9 maybe once every 6 months or so and very sparingly to clean the cantilever. No issues.

A few reasons not to use a liquid cleaner 99% of them contains alcohol and petroleum base products. This can dissolve the glue between the cantilever and diamond, it also migrates up the cantilever messing up the suspension. Most suspension in a MC are rubber and solvents are not good for it.

And to my point and reference in this thread is to stay away from the Blackbird with brushes. Just behind the steal guard at the tip is micro wires that are soldered to the side pins. You can't touch these, if they brake your done, if they touch each other your done, if you look at them wrong your done. I would rather have a dusty working cartridge than a clean broken one.

I use Onzow Zerodust and my records are supper clean in the first place.

Agreed. A decent record cleaner and a Zerodust is all one needs in my view.
