I got one last year in the summer with no cart because I had an extra cart- a Van den hul MM-1. It sounded very good. But then my audio guy convinced me to do something I thought bordered on audio insanity. I replaced my older cart with a Benz Wood High voltage cart (which cost almost as much as my TT) and it sounds fantastic!

The Benz cart starts the audio chain on it's way to your speakers and it gradually made sense to me that a great cartridge is even more important than the TT sometimes (given a quality TT of course). BTW, the NKC 45 rpm LP set from Acoustic Sounds is unbelievable! It is one of the top 10 LP sets that I have ever heard (and I'm 57).

Sorry for using initials, but it was the Nat King Cole story. It is worth every freakin' penny!

KingRT,

One of the qualities Nat had was one that is valued by opera singers. That is to sing quietly but still be clearly heard and to vary the vocal line. One of the highlights for me is the Chaplin song "Smile".

I'm thinking about ordering a Clearaudio Concept. I would likely put a Dynavector 20x2H on it. Has anyone heard plus-minus using Dynavector with a Concept. I have been using it with my Rega RP3, but I just don't seem to get synergy between the Rega, DV, and my REL sub. The other thought is to get the Concept with the Concept MC. However, I have a Moon 110LP phono stage and think I would need to upgrade my phono stage for better support of a low output MC cartridge.

The Concept is a great-sounding table but I've never heard a DV on it. Per your query, Dean, but I for a fact that wood-bodied carts, including Grados and the Clearaudio Maestro Wood, work particularly well on this table. The other cartridge that works well on it are the Benz ACE and again, in particular, the Benz Wood MC's also work particularly well. You could go with, for example, a Benz Wood SM and not have to upgrade your Moon.

Thanks, Stephen. I may not have much of a choice on the cartridge. I'm still waiting to see what my dealer is willing to do to make me happy about a vinyl front end. The Maestro Wood loks like a good possibility though.
