Default Classé CD Players

Hello all. I was wondering if anyone knew why Classé discontinued all of their disk players? And when did this happen?

They issued a statement saying, basically, that they did not think they could produce/sell a competitive product in this world of universal players and shifting standards It was posted on many websites.

I bought a Classe Audio CD player CDP100 in 2006. It is still working well without any failure. I think Classe Audio stopped selling CD players about three years after my purchase, so that would be 2009.

Linn also stopped selling CD players, even if they produced the famous Ikemi CD player.

Kal:

Great read. Thank you. I read a similar thread hosted by Charles Hansen of Ayre, and his answers paralleled Classe's.

BWLover, it is not easy to answer your question because the CDP202 was a CD + DVD player.

As a CD + DVD player, the CDP202 took its place between the CDP102 and the CDP502, both being CD + DVD players.

As a CD player only, the CDP202 should theoretically be the top of the line above the CDP102 and the CDP100. Though, I am not sure it is. The CDP202 runs a D/A converter with 3 x Burr Brown PCM1792 (for both audio and video) with an audio sampling rate at 192 KHz while the CDP100 runs a D/A converter with 2 x Burr-Brown1738 (two DACs in mono mode for left & right channels and dedicated for audio only) with an audio sampling rate at 352.8 KHz and a clock jitter < 2ps.

To be honest, I did not compare the CDP202 and the CDP100, which was their top player before the CDP102 and then the CDP202 appear.

It's a pity, I've owned both the CDP102 and CDP202 models, they are great units. They also have inbuilt volume controls too, so can go direct to amplifier.

It's a strange lineup they have now, amplifiers and a preamp with inbuilt DAC then the new sigma series.

Pity really, the CP700 was a great product too.
