Default I2s

Here's an interesting option guys: Try using the I2S connection to your W4S DAC!

I stumbled across Pink Faun. They have a product called Audio Bridge. It is a PCI-E card and plugs into a PCI-E slot. It is powered by a molex connector though there are other options. There is also a choice of connectors. I chose HDMI because W4S use that connector type on the back of their DAC. Note that this is not an HDMI connection - it is I2S. The cable just happens to be an HDMI cable.

This is a worthwhile job. It makes a small but noticeable difference for the better. The theoretical benefit is that you avoid converting 12S to USB (or Spdif etc) and then back again.

Everything old is new again.

I wrote a pair of articles about using I2S for inter-component communications back in 1995 for Audio Amateur.

Greets from NZ Kal. Is there a link to your articles; or were they written on parchment and now only viewable by appointment?

They appeared in AudioAmateur 3/1995 and 1/1997. You might try inquiring at http://www.audioxpress.com/magsdirx/...x/aabilist.htm They may offer reprints.

I have also considered the W4S server as it has both usb and I2S outputs. Just talked with EJ yesterday about it, however, and he likes the usb input into the 2v2SE LE over the I2S in that particular DAC. Regardless, as I also have a different brand of DAC that uses I2S, I will likely get his server and make up my own mind. Looking forward to the comparison.
