Mini review of the PMC OB1
First let me start by saying that the OB1 that I am listening to IS NOT the new "i" version so therefore does not benefit from the new tweeter or the newly designed cabinet.
Ian has assured me that the newer version of this speaker is (that much) better... Well, knowing that I was loving my TB2's and wanting to move up the PMC food chain... Ian offered to let me demo a pair of OB's that were in the PMC system. First this was an amazing and gracious offer, so of course I had to take him up on it. I was not really prepared for what this narrow floor-stander could produce. After getting the very manageable boxes into the house and having my helper un-box them, bolt on the bases, add the spikes, plug them in,... it was time to sit down and get to some listening. These speakers are absolutely amazing. I am just not believing what I am hearing... sound is coming from everywhere at once, there is a new type of transparency to the music. It is just there and everywhere. After a couple of days I decided to experiment with positioning a little and found that if I brought them in a little more from the side walls and back a little closer to the front wall that the already incredible bass tightened up even further. I am so impressed by everything that these speakers do. Most of you know that I am a hard core rock and roller who also really loves and appreciates the early acoustic blues all the way through to the electric blues, well, these speakers do it all. I do not have the equipment to measure frequencies in my room, but I can tell you that 170mm bass driver will "really get down there". Providing room filling, articulate, bass way down into the lower octaves. VERY satisfying. I would also be amiss if I did not tell you that the vocals, especially female, that are produced by the 75mm soft dome mid range driver are some of the best that I have ever heard. I do not have near the amount of experience that many of you do, but I can tell you this... These are the best speakers that I have heard in MY room. Period. They have been seeing plenty of 500 watt peaks and I will tell you this... These speakers really rock!!! Please, if you are looking for a pair of speakers that give you the music just as it was recorded... you really owe it to yourself to give the amazing PMC speakers a listen |

Thanks two dot for posting your review. My dad has a pair of OB1i's on order - he will be driving them with a MC402 and C46. We are both looking forward to hearing them

Seeing that you still have your 360's ( I foolishly sold mine) I will be very interested to hear what you think. In my room, the OB's bettered my 360's in almost every way!!! |

I will be sure to post my impressions. Your praise of the OB1's in relation to the LS360s is very high indeed!

William,
As usual, you were right... I now see what you have been trying to tell me. I just DID NOT think it was possible from such a "small box" Listening to a Ronnie Earl LP and the soundstage and imaging are just nothing short of stunning... |

So glad to see Two dot enjoying his loaners.... I sense an OB1i in your room very soon ! And yes they are remarkably better in every possible aspect.
These speakers really do get better with time in that you get used to their subtleties: Refined yet true bass (deep deep with OB's dropping off somewhere in the low 20's), detail & nuance capability, ease of placement, conveyance of the quality & character of sources and components, a nice balance between neutrality and musicality & warmth... Disappear? All of this with just three drivers x'ed very steeply and uniformly and an unassuming cabinet... Magnmac, Some of the best sound I have ever heard on any PMC was with the GB1i, once with SimAudio, once with a big ass Krell, and the other with a Bryston of course! And a few other notables include VAC & Parasound (JC1's)...
