amp synergy with Yvette
Hi, as some you may know, I have placed an order (and am eagerly awaiting delivery ) of a new pair of Wilson Yvette speakers. I'm thinking about taking this opportunity to upgrade to a pair of Mcintosh 1.2K monoblocks. My question to all those who are familiar with Wilson speakers or the 1.2Kw, - how would the Yvette pair with the 1.2Kw's from a sonics perspective? Would there be good synergy? I realize this may be overkill in terms of wattage/power, but from an aesthetic perspective, I think the look of those massive blue power meters beside the beautiful lines of the Yvette would look incredible...but how about the sound? Please chime in with your thoughts. Thanks.

If you like McIntosh, and of course you do or you wouldn't buy 1.2k's, you'll like the sound. Don't second guess it, you'll be happy. Wilson's work with pretty much any amp as long as it's got the required power. Not an issue for you. Congrats!

I run 601's with Sasha 2s and enjoy that for sure. I'm considering the 2301s as well and are in a similar price range to the 1.2kw but you would want to audition first for sure.

Silly me .. I didn't see your signature. Looks like you can audition them with the 601s and the 2301s when they arrive!! Will sound great for sure!

Congrats on the Yvette's. They are wonderful speakers.
The 1.2K's are very good amps but, frankly, you may not need that much power. If Mc are the amps you desire, the 2301s would be fabulous and plenty of power. If you prefer SS, then the 601s would be fine as well. Enjoy!

You would not go wrong with 601s or 2301s. I am a fan of tubes and really like Mac tubes with Wilson. Used to have an Mc2102 with Sophias and then WP 7s which were excellent combos. Of course, there is no harm in keeping the 1.2k monoblocks as you will simply not require all that the mighty Macs can give.

Congrats on the Yvettes. I have a pair and I couldn't be happier. I am using Convergent Audio Technology tube mono blocks and they sound great. I am sure the McIntosh amps will be very good, though.
Please post some pics when you get your speakers. |
