More piano jazz trio, but a bit more refined.
A whole bit more.
This is a great album!
I have seen him live, with Avishai Cohen, the fantastic trumpet player.

For his entrance onto ECM (label), Yonathan Avishai kicks off Joys And Solitudes with Mood Indigo. By putting Ellington's masterpiece in the spotlight, the Franco-Israeli pianist (alongside double bassist Omer Avital and trumpeter Avishai Cohen) undoubtedly wanted to remind himself where he came from. This refined musician is part of a certain piano tradition that’s far removed from the usual Bill Evans/Keith Jarrett axis, both of whom were incredibly influential among musicians of his generation. In addition to The Duke, Yonathan Avishai approaches pieces by the great elders John Lewis, Ahmad Jamal and Bobby Timmons without ever plagiarizing their touch. "Ellington is still a thoroughly modern pianist and composer. His way of always telling a story while playing has influenced me a lot and Mood Indigo is a song I have loved for a long time. "
>
With his faithful rhythmic section (Yoni Zelnik, an Israeli double bass player based in Paris, and Donald Kontomanou, a French drummer with a double heritage, both Guinean and Greek) Avishai also reminds his listeners of the impressive composer that he is. He uncovers seven original pieces with pure, fat-free melodies, filled with blues and swing as well as silences and spaces... "I feel deeply rooted in tradition. Most of all, I love the history and the perspectives it opens up when you study it. I’m particularly interested in the history of jazz - from Louis Armstrong to Cecil Taylor and so on." ‘And so on’ indeed! On Les Pianos de Brazzaville, Yonathan Avishai evokes his trips to the Republic of Congo and Central Africa. The theme Tango is a response to the album Ojos Negros by Dino Saluzzi and Anja Lechner. The piece When Things Fall Apart takes its title from a novel by the American Buddhist Pema Chödrön, but is inspired by Avishai Cohen's music and is in fact a response to the trumpeter's composition Into The Silence. In the end, all this material fuels an album that’s full of grace and reinforces the conviction that Yonathan Avishai is a very great contemporary jazz pianist. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz

Listening again to this great release.

Herbie Nichols Trio - Blue Note 1519
via Qobuz

Recorded: August 1 & 7, 1955 and April 19, 1956

Herbie Nichols - piano
Teddy Kotick (tracks 6-8 & 10), Al McKibbon (tracks 1-4 & 9) - bass
Max Roach - drums

Herbie Nichols occupies a special place on the podium of unfairly forgotten heroes in the history of jazz. This virtuoso, who died of leukaemia at the age of 44, was an innovative pianist with lyrical and rhythmic melodies that were very original for their time. Fascinated by Thelonious Monk, he found his own sound by mixing influences as disparate as Dixieland, Caribbean and classical music by the likes of Bartók or Satie. His transition to Blue Note led to three trio albums: The Prophetic Herbie Nichols Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 (recorded in May 1955 with Al McKibbon on double bass and Art Blakey on drums) and this one, Herbie Nichols Trio (recorded in August 1955 and April 1956 with Teddy Kotick and Al McKibbon on double bass and Max Roach on drums). In 1957, Herbie Nichols recorded his last record for Bethlehem Records - Love, Gloom, Cash, Love - before falling into oblivion and being eaten away by the illness that took over his life in April 1963... Years later, avant-garde musicians like Misha Mengelberg, Roswell Rudd and Steve Lacy helped bring his music back into the public eye. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz

One of the albums I play really often.
A fully matured Carter conveys pure emotion.
The title track is to die for and her band is excellent.

Very very nice...

Michele Rabbia - Gianluca Petrella - Eivind Aarset - Lost River
Qobuz 24/48

I quite liked this.
And it has superb sound too.

ECM is used to going off-piste, and that’s exactly what they do here with Lost River. The project is led by drummer Michele Rabbia and guitarist Eivind Aarset, who have previously performed together as a duo. Rabbia has also collaborated with trombonist Gianluca Petrella, but this album is a first for the trio. As the brain behind the German label, it was Manfred Eicher’s idea to bring the three together. Composed largely from improvised sound textures, their music has the feel of an atmospheric symphony that’s speckled with electronic sounds. Like a distant relative to the renowned record Khmer - the album that Nils Petter Molvӕr released on ECM in 1998 - Lost Rivers plays on sensations, shapes and space. Everything is weightless - but never too fleeting - in this superb meditative jazz. © Max Dembo/Qobuz
