I mentioned in another thread that I ended up going for the Ayre KX-R/D.D. Momentum monoblocks to drive my Sashas, however, if my budget didn't allow me to go for this combo, then I'ed still be perfectly happy to live with the Ayre KX-R/MX-R combo driving my Sashas - still a very captivating combo!

That being said, all my demos were using Transparent Ref. XL cabling throughout.

I have been considering the K-XR as a pre-amo option to mate with my Momentum's. How do they pair up?

I will probably try Dan's pre-amp before making any decision but I am getting a bit tired of waiting for its release.

Nothing better than listening to Wilsons with a glass of Bordeaux or Bourgogne.

We are spending three weeks in France this summer, 4 or 5 days will be in my favorite town Beaune.

Jim,

Without a doubt, the Wilson Sasha W/P speakers, D.D. Momentum monoblocks and Ayre KX-R preamp make a great combo. Here is the link to some of my comments that I made regarding this combo - http://www.audioaficionado.org/wilso...tml#post204922.

Personally, I think the Sasha/Momentum/KX-R combo is truly something special. To be honest, I can't see myself changing this combo for quite sometime. That being said, the only exception to this would be if Dan's new preamp turns out to be an absolute gem and manages to trump my Sasha/Momentum/KX-R combo - and that will definitely not be easy!

Truth be told, deep down, I am hoping that Dan pulls off another "Momentum Moment" with his preamp. What I'm really curiously excited about is that during the Munich High End 2012 show, Dan told me that he added tone controls to his new preamp. If he implements it right, this could be quite significant for folks like myself who have relatively small listening areas. On a more minor note, aesthetically, it would be nice to be able to have a matching amp/preamp set.

In addition, according to Petra, the preamp was meant to be launched at the Munich High End 2012 show but the machinist could not complete the preamp chassis in time for the show - everything else was ready to go.

It's now been about 6 weeks since the Munich High End 2012 show ended on 6-May-2012, and still there has been no word on the official launch date of Dan's new preamp. However, during the show, there was some chatter that Dan might just consider officially launching his preamp at the upcoming "Hong Kong High-End AV Show 2012" (10 to 12-Aug-2012). Not sure if this will actually happen or not, but it could explain why there has been no further news regarding the launch of Dan's new preamp.

If I were you, I would wait for Dan's new preamp, as I have this feeling that it might be well worth the wait.

Philip

P.S. - This past Tuesday (19-Jun), I demo'ed Brett D'Agostino's BSC-100m class A monaural power amps (Bully Sound Company - Pure Audio Expression) which had just arrived that day and they only had about 4 hours of break-in time. Simply put, for 100W (8 ohms) of pure class A power with bias control priced at US MSRP 15,000, IMHO, these amps are worth every cent and then some. Straight out of the box, they sounded rich, full bodied and fast! I'll definitely be going back to the dealer in a couple of days for a 2nd session.

Guys,

I can tell you something with the utmost confidence.

KARAN is a very under estimated brand with a serious lack of super high end awareness: this KAS 600 is a giant stereo amp Killer. I'm sure it could best most of what's available on the market today stereo or monos.

Guys, after a fantastic week with the KARAN KAS600 sitting at home, my next adventure should now be an Accuphase A-65.
The real true Class A (with steady biais whatever the input signal is...), something I always wanted to try by myself.
