Mike.......I understand your point of view. I have heard it from a number of others, but a W4S DAC2 and Music Server sitting side by side would fill a rack shelf just fine. The NAS hard drive could be anywhere.

That the W4S DAC2 is not a standard sized component is the very reason (aside from its great performance) it works so well in my system. I'd be very hard pressed to fit in one more standard sized component, even a slim one.

In my situation, I could comfortably stack another W4S component with my DAC2.

Pete.......I was just thinking the very same thing while looking at your photo. The W4S Music Server would fit right on top of the DAC2 without a problem.

Dan...this is very interesting. I had been thinking more in terms of a server setup consisting of an NAS device located in my computer room, while running a network cable from that room into the living room room and stashing a small laptop underneath my MC501 shelf in the photo above, connecting it to the DAC2 via USB and using my 55" Sony TV as a monitor.

I can't do anything until things improve here, but this is all very interesting food for thought. I'll be curious to see how the pricing on the W4S server comes in.

Pete.......Yep, I'll have to keep an eye on this. I might want to do the W4S Server in the studio connected to the MCD1100.

I'm not sure how I feel about the new chassis design. It would be nice if the server more closely matched the DAC2's cosmetics. I also wonder if they will offer a "black" version of the server.

Pete.......I am just the opposite. I like the way the new W4S Music Server looks, and hope they make an upgraded DAC2 to match.
