Go listen to the 800 series and then listen to the 702 s2's and see what you think! Don't listen to what a reviewer has to say about them or what I think about them, your own ears is all that matters!
Your statement rings true.
My ears as yours hear different things and perhaps your right about sitting in for a demo on the 702 s2's. I myself do not pay attention so much to specs but more to what I am hearing. As for the D3's I liked what I was hearing but I still believe they are overpriced and I have also heard the 805d3's and was unimpressed.
Thanks for reminding me about reviewers, they are only people with TITLES.

Ouch! that BAT hurt!

I don't think the new 800 series is overpriced! I think they are some of the best sounding speakers on the market.. now!

Now a lot more people can enjoy that great sound too!

This months TAS calls 800D3 one of Greatest Bargains in High-End Audio, category Ultra High-End. When you consider it costs half of what other comparable and popular quality speakers cost, I think it's a fair assessment

Same with german magazine called Audio. They ranked them as second in thier list with a retail price of 30.000 EUR. Number one in the list is 96.000 EUR and number three is 65.000 EUR. I think this says a lot about the value you get with B&W flagship.

This point has been made before. Because of their large volume and worldwide distribution, B&W can amortize design and production development over a huge base, quite unlike that of all "boutique" lines that restrict themselves to producing only high-end products.

Another German magazine just this month, ranked the new 703 s2's in the High-End Reference Class of speakers now, rating them very close in sound quality as the 803 D3's! The 803 D3's are one of the best speakers you can buy at any price.. now! They also ranked the 703 s2's above the raved 702 s2's for sound quality, so you can see what a hell of a bargain $$$ these 703 s2's are now! I listen to both these speakers with not so good recordings and the 702 s2's sounded harsh compared to the 703 s2's!

Here's what that German magazine said about the 703 s2's compared to the 803 D3's!.. down this page

As you can see the 702s2's was not ranked in the High-End Reference Class of speakers like the 703s2's and the new 800 series speakers are with a Very Good (1.0) Rating!

The 702s2's only received a Good (1.7) Rating! And are not in the Reference Class of speakers!

if you look at the Germany StereoPlay review they gave the 702S2 a rating of 81 points and the 803D3 90 points which is a large differential in favor of the 803D3 which there should be at the price point.

While I have no doubt for the money the new 700 series is a tremendous value and use similar trickle down technologies of the 800 series they are not in the same league.

I have not seen a similar comparison published yet that shows the 703S2 versus the 702S2 which does not have the separate tweeter on top or the extra woofer in play.

I have read some initial reaction from audio reviewers however that gave the heads up to the 702S2 over the 703S2 as being more detailed and better dynamically especially in the bass which you would expect.

Will be interesting to see what Kal reports.

May I ask what is that German magazine?

Sound Stage Australia is now doing a review on the 703s2's so we will soon find out if they are better than the bigger 702s2's and might be the true sweet-spot in the B&W line!
