From the Guardian this morning:
“Police have begun questioning workers who were carrying out renovations at the cathedral. The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an inquiry into “involuntary destruction by fire”, indicating they believe the cause of the blaze was accidental rather than criminal.”

Very sad and sobering. My mom sent me a picture that I never new that she took when we visited there 29 years ago. It was of my dad and I each lighting a prayer candle.
It's a shame so many people will never get a chance to see the beauty of the cathedral nor hear the majestic organ. Luckily the organ and many relics survived this. |

Very sad and there are really no words that suffice. I pray the rest of the structure holds and they can at least restore this world treasure to a semblance of it original magnificence...

Yes a tragedy, luckily no one was hurt.
Sounds like the outer structures in place, donations are pouring in and it will be rebuilt with the benefit of old and new. |

I just read the restoration cost is estimated to be around $8 billion which would translate to $151,000 per square foot.
Seems excessive but I don't know. |

Unfortunately we now move from the various stages of human grief to witness human greed at its best. Cynical in the extreme I know but I suspect that it would not be $8B if everyone did not pose their highest fees for materials, design, labor, etc...and did this for a modest profit for the true good of restoring a vital piece of history...
