Default Headed to Nice.......

....for 10 days next month. Plan to run up & down the coast to Antibes & Villefranche, hit the Marches Saleya & Liberation (local cuisine at the small cafes/bistrots surrounding both, plus take-away to enjoy in local parks, etc.). Any suggestions that we might not find in the various tour guide books?

From the overwhelming response it does not seem there is much interest in Nice. However, if you are odd person who might be, just found this guide for doing Nice on the cheap, which we find is a better way of enjoying our travels then hanging in all the tourist places (can stay home and meet the same folks).

We plan to take the train both east and west from Nice for day trips visiting Antibes, Monaco and Menton. Perhaps the bus to visit Ezes (perfume factory), St Paul de Vence and St Jean Cap Ferrat to visit to the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. And, the final 2-days of the Paris-Nice bicycle race will be while we are there.

We had 2-wk of wonderful weather (sunny, mild breezes, mid-60's), wonderful food and a wonderful place to visit. Nice turns out to be a great walking city (we did 4+ mi a day). Went as far east as Menton and west to Antibes. Could not recommend Nice and the area any more highly. As Nice was part of Italy until 1860, about 50% of the food was Italian. That pasta meals we had were as good as any we've had anywhere. Pretty much the same for the French meals. While we enjoy our veggies, the ones served with our meals in the area were the best we've had. Not sure if it was the source (local?), how they were prepared or both. But they were the best. Of course, the Cours Saleya market being only blocks from the Place Massena makes fresh foods easily available for restaurants anywhere near the central part of the city.

Sadly, we were headed back to Nice today (after a month there via Morocco, Cadiz, Barcelona, Perpignan/Collioure & Marseille) and my phone gave me an alert that we needed to catch the train at 9:42 a.m. Unfortunately, none of this has taken place and my wife's b'day dinner on the beach at the Beau Rivage will not take place (as she eats her b'day breakfast cheesecake).

I know where you are coming from. I have cancelled three separate vacations to Europe I had planned for this spring/summer. Germany in May, Switzerland in June and a River Cruise in August. This was going to be a great year.

I was supposed to be leaving this coming Wednesday for Switzerland for my aunt’s 90th birthday in Zürich (my family is from there), a few days hiking around Gruyères and Appenzell, and then Belgium to see an old friend and maybe finally meet Bart. Instead I’m fighting with United for a refund.

We have a fully paid cruise from Barcelona to London in the books for August. Cruise line has given us until 48 hours before to rebook on a cruise to be taken by the end of 2022.

So we are on hold and hoping they just cancel the entire thing and refund the monies.

No way we are flying internationally this year.

Certainly been a bummer for travel since this all started. Hopefully, this will 'shake out' and we can ll just move our trip back one year or something close to that. We are definitely getting 'cabin fever'.

And, yes......... of all the folks we have had to deal with on cancellations, etc., United was far the worst. If we can avoid them in the future we certainly will.

Stay safe.

Ever the optimist(s), we've re-booked our canceled past April trip for next April. Fingers crossed.

Good for you Glenn. Our first week of August cruise is scheduled to be the first our cruise line takes when it restarts. I am praying it is cancelled. No way we are going to fly to Barcelona and cruise around Spain, Portugal and France this August and then fly home from London. Just not going to happen.

I can’t get my $ back unless they cancel. If not, I have a pretty big amount in their bank for up to two years while we reschedule. Or, I can cancel and eat about $6000. Terrible choice.
