Default Last night was incredible

No, not that. .

Last night I went down to the studio for a listening session. I had powered the preamp and amps about an hour earlier. The K-01X and the Aurender stay powered continuously so they are always ready to go. So I picked up the iPad, opened the Aurender Conductor app and decided to listen to the High-Res playlist I assembled. I turned off the room lighting and the meter lights on the gear, tapped the first song on the playlist, laid the iPad down, closed my eyes and let the music wash over me. From the first notes of the first song until the last note of the last song I melted into my big leather couch. During the entire time the 14 songs played I may have opened my eyes three or four times only to close them right back. Every single track captured my complete attention. The instruments were perfect, the voices pure, the dynamics riveting, the sound stage amazing. Everything was so right and so satisfying that once the playlist ended I found myself speaking out load to no one except myself, "What an incredible sound system." This has happened before but last night in the dark with my eyes closed for the better part of two hours I became fully immersed in the music without a moments thought of the equipment. It was fabulous. This is why we are so diligent in our quest for perfection and why we spend gobs of money to that end. When it all comes together, as it did last night for me, it is crystal clear the effort and expense are worth every cent.

Great post Dan. I know the feeling. In fact, we had some friends over last night, including an old buddy with a new girlfriend. Boss-Garland I had had a great listening session with the vinyl, although a bit of an impromptu nature. My buddy's girlfriend saw the Mac gear and said "Oh, we had McIntosh - love it!".

Congrats Dan, that's what it's all about! When you can forget about your gear and just be totally engaged by your favorite music, that's when our obsession has really paid off.

Paul.......Always cool to discover a woman who enjoys high-end music and is able to readily identify McIntosh equipment. I am sure everyone appreciated your music.

Bill.......The studio system sounds so amazing I am hesitant to change, alter or add anything else for fear of not being able to return it to its present state. I don't want to fix something that doesn't need fixing. My intention is to leave well enough alone and enjoy the system as it is.

Really cool description, Dan. I don't often "listen" like that, with purpose, which is a shame.

Dan,
Great post. It's an amazing experience when it all comes together and you find yourself alone with music. I've been doing a lot of that kind of listening lately and you're right. It's fabulous. Thanks for sharing your experience.
