Its too bad the Sonica keeps getting delayed. Looks like a great value. Date just changed again from January 2017 to early 2017. They must be working out the gremlins.

They are available for purchase now, i'll have a couple of them this week.

While i'm not one to believe in that giant killer crap, I do believe Oppo makes some pretty good stuff for the money.

Now, I wait and see about the 205.

Hey Keith,
Any impressions yet? I think the sonica may be a good solution for our place in Wisconsin, where I don't have a good internet connection.

Tom,

I've used it in two capacities.

1) With Sonos-improvement.

2) Used my Oppo 105D as a SACD/CD player and ran it through the Sonica DAC (ES9038PRO)-improvement.

For the price of admission it's worth trying out.

I really think it's worth a shot. I can't use Sonos at our lake house. With the Sonica all I need is my music on USB hard drive and I'm done.

Tom

I've had my Sonica since the first week in February and it has stayed powered up since installation. It now has close to 500 hours of music usage and has gotten better with time. In the first few months OPPO did nothing with the firmware or software as like the Sonica the 205 was also months behind it's initial release date. In the past several weeks since the 205 has come to market they have made several firmware and software updates that have smoothed out the sound a bit on both extremes and made the software much more user friendly. Now unlike to start with you have the ability to control power, volume and output selection from the app as well as the front panel. As with their other products I am sure updates will continue to come. Most of the time I use mine strictly as a DAC since I am more familiar with and prefer the Auralic app. With time I am sure I could get used to the different Sonica app if I had too. In all a really good product for a fair price like most OPPO products.

Thanks for all the info on the Sonica. Glad to see OppO is actively developing the firmware as they have done on all their players. I like the fact that I should be able to just connect a big HDD to it via USB and be set.
