Default Equinox 6/Aurora all-around...(yet another review).

Let me begin by saying that I'm a pushover for cables. There are so many options available at decent prices, it's no wonder that about every few months I get the itch to try something new. The fact that, for me, cables are much more affordable than trying for instance, a new amp or source allows me to experiment with various ones.

This is my system to date: Squeezebox Duet > Wyred DAC2 > MC402 > Salk Songtowers.

I use a Bolder Cable Co. linear power supply for my Duet. This upgraded power supply reduces the amount of noise as well as tightening up the bass tremendously. Knowing what improvements it made has allowed me to have an open mind regarding what cables can bring to the table, power cables in particular.

I ordered a set of Equinox 6 XLR IC's months ago for use between my DAC and amp. At that time I also bought an Aurora power cable for the DAC as well. These new cables brought a richer, more lifelike sound to my system. I liked what I heard and knew it was only a matter of time before trying some of their other products.

Things had been on the back burner for awhile until all these new cable posts kept popping up here on AA (isn't it amazing how this site has the uncanny ability to magically open your wallet?!!!). After reading about the improvements that everyone was hearing it was time for me to make the move. I had no doubt about staying with the WW line, but after reading the "Cables--All the same brand" thread, my thoughts were finalized. The two biggest responses that made me go in this direction were:

"Would you mix the spark plug cables on your car?" and, "I think you should stay with one brand. Most companies have a vision of what their cables should sound like and design accordingly. Mixing may not hurt, but it probably won't help as much either."

Last Thursday I received another Aurora PC for my amp, a set of Equinox 6 speaker cables, and a Matrix power strip (with Aurora cable) from Ivan. I hooked up the SC's and have approx. 80 hours on them now. I put the Aurora PC and Matrix strip into my video system to start burning in. I wanted to add things separately so I could hear what each brought the table instead of throwing everything in at once.

The SC's have pulled everything together. There isn't "more" of anything, there wasn't this mysterious "like taking a blanket off my speakers" effect that we all read about, but what I did hear was a cohesion between the treble, midrange and bass. It all works together so much better than with my previous set-up. I'm able to see around the instruments a little bit farther than before. I'm reminded of what bodiezaffa said in regards to his new Eclipse cables: "I noticed an immediate balancing act going on between the bass, mids and highs. The bass wasn’t any less powerful or engaging, it was quite the opposite. The mids and the highs locked in sync with the bass and the results were incredible." This pretty much sums up my thoughts exactly.

I put in my new Aurora PC and Matrix at the same time yesterday. Once again, not giant leaps and bounds but there is definitely a blacker background and less harshness. It's one of those things that you don't realize is there until it's gone. The music is that much clearer coming through which allows me to get an even better/closer connection to it.

I'm very pleased with these cables. They have allowed me to take another step forward as far as the goals I have for my system are concerned.

I embrace Wireworld interconnects, power cords and speakers cables, too. Excellent products that truly do bring it all together.

Dan,

Your review of the Silver Eclipse cables helped push me down the WW road. I'm delighted that one of their lower end products sound this good.
